San Beda College Alabang continues to strengthen its pursuit of academic excellence and global standards, as it participated in the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Writing Workshop for Successful AUN-QA Programme Assessment organized by the Philippine Society for Quality on May 12–14, 2026, at The Manila Hotel, with a follow-up virtual session on June 4.
Representing the College were Dr. Ma. Kathleen C. Tiglao, Director of the Institutional Advancement Division, and Mr. Wilfredo A. Abrillo, Quality Management System Coordinator. The workshop convened quality assurance practitioners and academic leaders nationwide to enhance competencies in developing Self-Assessment Reports aligned with the ASEAN University Network–Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) framework.
Led by AUN-QA experts Dr. Nguyen Thi My Ngoc and Prof. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, the training emphasized that the SAR is not merely a compliance document, but a strategic instrument that reflects an institution’s quality culture, systems maturity, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Participants engaged in intensive sessions on the 11 AUN-QA criteria, Outcome-Based Education, evidence-based reporting, and the ADRI (Approach, Deployment, Results, and Improvement) framework. Through workshops and mock assessments, they developed skills in crafting analytical and evidence-driven SAR narratives.
A key takeaway from the training was the critical alignment of Expected Learning Outcomes, Teaching and Learning Activities, and assessment methods, alongside the need to demonstrate measurable results and sustained improvement initiatives.
For SBCA, the workshop served as a strategic opportunity to assess current practices and identify areas for enhancement. Discussions underscored the importance of systematic data collection, robust documentation, faculty engagement, and shared responsibility across academic and support units in advancing quality assurance.
More importantly, the training reinforced a fundamental insight: quality assurance goes beyond accreditation—it drives institutional transformation. Through honest self-assessment and evidence-based decision-making, institutions are better positioned to achieve global competitiveness.
As SBCA moves forward in its vision of becoming a university, the knowledge gained from this engagement provides a solid foundation for strengthening internal quality systems and aligning its programs with regional and international benchmarks. It affirms that excellence is not only built on facilities and offerings, but on a sustained commitment to quality, accountability, and innovation.
By investing in initiatives such as the AUN-QA SAR Writing Workshop, SBCA reaffirms its role as a forward-looking institution—prepared to meet the evolving demands of higher education in the ASEAN region and beyond.
