𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲’𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭
In our journey of faith, we often pray for what we desire—good health, success, security, or answers to our prayers. Yet true discipleship invites us to something even greater: holy indifference.
Holy indifference does not mean being uncaring or passive. Rather, it is the grace to desire 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧, trusting that His plans are always for our good. It is the freedom to say, “𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦.”
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the perfect model of holy indifference. At the Annunciation, she did not know what the future would hold. She simply entrusted herself completely to God, responding with unwavering faith:
“𝘉𝑒𝘩𝑜𝘭𝑑, 𝘐 𝘢𝑚 𝑡𝘩𝑒 ℎ𝘢𝑛𝘥𝑚𝘢𝑖𝘥 𝘰𝑓 𝑡𝘩𝑒 𝐿𝘰𝑟𝘥. 𝑀𝘢𝑦 𝑖𝘵 𝘣𝑒 𝑑𝘰𝑛𝘦 𝘵𝑜 𝑚𝘦 𝘢𝑐𝘤𝑜𝘳𝑑𝘪𝑛𝘨 𝘵𝑜 𝑦𝘰𝑢𝘳 𝘸𝑜𝘳𝑑.” (𝘓𝑢𝘬𝑒 1:38)
Like Mary, may we learn to hold our dreams, plans, successes, and even our trials with open hands—working faithfully, praying earnestly, and accepting with peace whatever leads us closer to Christ.
On this Saturday, let us ask Our Blessed Mother to teach us the freedom that comes from complete trust in God’s loving providence.
