San Beda College Alabang held its Baccalaureate Mass for the tertiary and graduate education schools on July 3, 2025, coinciding with the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle. During the celebration, Rev. Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, Rector, offered a message of faith, gratitude, and hope to the graduating class.
In his homily, Fr. De Villa congratulated the graduates for successfully completing their academic journey, recognizing the perseverance, endurance, and sacrifices they made throughout the years. He acknowledged the hardships of student life—late nights, frustrations, and countless challenges—but affirmed that their determination and focus have now led them to this moment of triumph.
Fr. De Villa extended his congratulations to the graduates’ parents, families, and professors, commending their vital role in providing support and guidance. He emphasized the value of the Catholic and Benedictine education the students received, calling San Beda a true “School of the Lord’s Service.”
Drawing from the Gospel reading of the day, the Rector-President reflected on the story of the Apostle Thomas, famously known as “Doubting Thomas.” He reminded the graduates that like the apostles—Jesus’ first students—today’s learners are also called to be witnesses of faith. Thomas’ journey from doubt to belief, when he finally encountered the Risen Christ and proclaimed “My Lord and my God,” serves as a powerful example of what it means to move from skepticism to conviction.
Fr. De Villa highlighted two important lessons from this “first school” of Jesus Christ. First, that true life is found in God, who calls humanity to share in His resurrection through faith in His Son. Second, that faith is not always seen or felt—believing in what is unseen is a hallmark of Christian discipleship. He reminded the graduates that they are not merely physical beings but are also spiritual—infused with the breath of God and called to live with purpose.
“San Beda College is more than just an institution,” Fr. De Villa said. “It is a School of the Lord’s Service. As you take your first steps into your professional lives, may you carry with you not only your academic knowledge but the knowledge of God and the values you have received during your time here.”
The Baccalaureate Mass concluded with a solemn blessing, sending forth the graduates with faith and hope as they begin the next chapter of their journey—equipped not only with education but with a spirit grounded in belief and service.
