San Beda College Alabang’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET) begins the academic year with a strong momentum driven by dynamic student initiatives, academic refinement, and a growing commitment to innovation and research.
Student organizations continue to play a vital role in energizing the SET community. The Bedan Information Technology Society (BITS) remains at the forefront of promoting ethical digital practices through events like NovaSynth, a pioneering seminar that opened meaningful conversations on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in academic life. These efforts reflect BITS’s ongoing dedication to shaping informed and critically engaged learners.
Cross-disciplinary collaboration is also gaining strength. Events such as SET Week have successfully brought together students from Information Technology and Engineering programs, fostering a more cohesive and inclusive academic environment. The School continues to prioritize student belonging and unity as it welcomes a new batch of Bedans.
Meanwhile, the Junior Bedan Engineering Society (JBES), though newly established, is already making its mark. By helping secure an official partnership between the Electronics Engineering program and the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), JBES is opening doors to expanded professional development and industry engagement for students.
On the academic front, SET is committed to continuous improvement. Recent efforts in curriculum refinement and program assessments underscore the School’s dedication to quality assurance and relevance in both engineering and information technology education.
Research development is also taking center stage this year. Plans are underway to increase faculty participation in academic conferences and training workshops, laying the groundwork for a stronger research culture and future scholarly output.
As the School navigates opportunities and challenges—from enhancing faculty recruitment to increasing student engagement—its direction remains clear: to nurture innovation, strengthen industry and academic partnerships, and empower student leaders. With purpose and passion at its core, the School of Engineering and Technology is ready to shape forward-thinking professionals for a rapidly evolving world. (The Bedan Digest, August 2025, p.9)
