(By Elaine Ann A. Aclan) The alumni of High School Batch 1981 came together to celebrate a remarkable milestone—their Sapphire Anniversary, marking 45 years since they graduated. The celebration commenced with a heartfelt Thanksgiving Mass at the St. Benedict Chapel on February 7, 2026.
The event drew a wonderful mix of former classmates, friends, and beloved faculty members, all eager to share their stories and reconnect after so many years. Rev. Fr. Eduardo Africa, OSB, celebrated the Mass, which turned out to be not just a ceremony but a heartfelt moment of reflection on their journey since leaving the familiar halls of San Beda College Alabang, then Benedictine Abbey School.
The atmosphere was uplifted by the beautiful voices of Vox Benedictus, the choir from the Center for Performing Arts, under the direction of Choirmaster Mr. Gelo Diamos. Their hymns filled the chapel with warmth.
As everyone settled into the chapel, memories of youthful days and cherished moments at San Beda came rushing back, setting the perfect tone for the gathering. During his homily, Fr. Ed spoke about the importance of friendship, gratitude, and staying connected throughout life. His words resonated deeply, sparking memories from long ago. During the Thanksgiving Mass, a touching moment unfolded as Fr. Ed offered a heartfelt prayer and blessing for Batch 1981, marking a significant moment in the celebration.
After the Mass, everyone headed to the Museum Lobby for a delightful fellowship. ERV’s Catering added a delicious touch to the gathering, where alumni enjoyed good food and even better company. Stories flowed freely as old friends caught up, reminiscing about their shared experiences and celebrating their journeys since graduation. Adding to the occasion, Rev. Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, joined the celebration, making the day even more special.
To make the day even more memorable, the group had the chance to take a campus tour led by the Alumni Affairs Moderator. It was a lovely opportunity to revisit old haunts, sharing laughter and stories at the spots that had been so integral to their youth. The tour reminded them of the lasting impact that their time at San Beda College Alabang had on their lives.
As this batch of alumni celebrated their Sapphire Anniversary, they proved that while circumstances may change, the enduring values of friendship, gratitude, and community continue to bind them together. As they reminisced about their journey, this esteemed group also looked ahead with optimism and determination, reaffirming the strong connections forged during their time together. Their reunion stands as a testament to the unwavering support they provide one another as they move forward.
This 45th anniversary wasn’t just a way to look back; it set the stage for future gatherings and connections among Batch 1981. It wasn’t just a milestone—it was a joyful reminder of a shared journey rooted in faith and friendship, and a commitment to continue walking this path together.
That in all things, God may be glorified.
