(By Roma Wynn C. Sedo) The Lion’s Roar is one of the most anticipated events in the Tertiary Schools (formerly known as the College of Arts and Sciences) at the end of every academic year. Organized by the Office of Student Affairs, this event celebrates and recognizes students’ hard work and achievements in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, while underscoring the importance of Bedan Core Values such as Prayer, Work, Peace, Community, Service, and Excellence. For over ten years, The Lion’s Roar has motivated student leaders and organization members to commit to holistic development through programs that complement academic instruction.
This event provides Bedans with opportunities and venues to cultivate intellectual, physical, social, psychological, and spiritual growth. The students’ creative and innovative ideas, along with their initiatives in inclusive and diverse projects—supported by Club Moderators, Faculty Members, Academic Support Services Personnel, Parents, and Administrators—contribute to building a campus community that values knowledge, spirituality, leadership, citizenship, critical thinking, and social responsibility. The characteristics of the lion as the “King of the Jungle” reflect the true spirit of Bedan leadership, embodying qualities like nobility, fearlessness, strength, assertiveness, dependability, integrity, and a willingness to stand up for what is right.
For this academic year, The Lion’s Roar envisions recognizing student organizations, officers, members, and moderators who dedicate themselves to implementing programs, projects, and activities aligned with the San Beda College Alabang Seven Focus Areas: (1) On-Going Christian Formation in Worship, Faith, and Morals, (2) Curriculum Development amid Technological Advances in Education and Global Citizenship Education, (3) Highly Engaged and Responsive Organization (HERO) and Robust Industry Linkages and Alumni Relations, (4) Accredited Programs and Systems, (5) Sustained Academic Research Capabilities and Excellent Research Outputs, (6) Active Social Responsibility Engagements, and (7) Promotion of Culture and the Arts.
The planning, execution, and evaluation of student activities focus on quality over quantity, fostering student empowerment rather than entitlement and addressing the needs of the Bedan community. This event provides a safe space for Bedans to explore, discover themselves, and embrace who they are, while maintaining sensitivity to others. We acknowledge that the impact and contributions of these student leaders cannot be easily quantified. The Bedan community deeply appreciates their time, energy, grit, resilience, commitment to study-life balance, efforts to reduce overthinking, and their selflessness in serving others.
This mission aligns with Benedictine leadership, which sets its ambitions for the greater good of God’s kingdom, upholds radical obedience to the organization’s mission, and practices active humility in service to others.
