San Beda College Alabang joins the celebration on the Solemnity of Our Lady of Montserrat
September 12, 2025 marks a historic and grace-filled day for the Benedictine community in the Philippines as we celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Benedictine presence in the country, coinciding with the Solemnity of Our Lady of Montserrat, the Patroness of the Benedictine family.
The arrival of the Spanish Benedictine monks in Manila on September 12, 1895, planted the seeds of Benedictine education and spirituality that have flourished for more than a century. From the establishment of San Beda in 1901 to the founding of San Beda College Alabang and other Benedictine schools, the Benedictines have formed generations of students in the values of ora et labora (prayer and work), discipline, community, and service.
Today, their legacy continues to shine as Benedictine institutions remain steadfast in their mission of providing holistic Catholic education, promoting a life of prayer, academic excellence, and compassion for others.
This celebration is not only a moment to honor the past but also a call to embrace the future with renewed faith and hope. Inspired by the theme of the Jubilee Year 2025, “Pilgrims of Hope,” the Benedictine family looks forward to journeying together with the Church and the world in building a future rooted in peace, justice, and love.
As we honor Our Lady of Montserrat, we entrust our schools, families, and communities to her maternal care, praying that she may continue to guide us closer to Christ, her Son.
💫 Happy 130th Anniversary of the Benedictine presence in the Philippines! UIOGD!
