YOUTH EUCHARISTIC SOCIETY
Academic & Professional Organizations
The Youth Eucharistic Society (YES) is a faith-based student organization that fosters a deeper love for the Holy Eucharist and promotes a life rooted in prayer, service, and devotion. Inspired by the Benedictine core values of Ora et Labora (Prayer and Work), YES encourages young Bedans to grow spiritually through regular adoration, liturgical service, catechesis, and acts of charity. As a community of faith-filled youth, YES aims to form compassionate disciples of Christ who joyfully live out their Catholic identity and serve as witnesses of God’s love in both word and action in their families, school and community.
A PRIMER ON THE YOUTH EUCHARISTIC SOCIETY OF SAN BEDA COLLEGE ALABANG (YES)
Introduction
The Youth Eucharistic Society (YES) is a vibrant student-led organization at San Beda College Alabang that aims to inspire young people to grow in their devotion to the Eucharist and to live out their faith through prayer, service, and community engagement. Founded on the Benedictine values of Ora et Labora (Prayer and Work), YES seeks to deepen the spiritual lives of its members while promoting the virtues of humility, obedience, and charity.
Rooted in the Catholic faith, YES serves as a platform for students to explore and nurture their relationship with Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary through a combination of religious celebrations, spiritual formation, prayer gatherings, and outreach programs. The society’s activities are designed to guide students in embodying the Eucharistic missionary spirit in every aspect of their lives, making YES a cornerstone for spiritual growth and active faith engagement not only in school but in their families and community as well.
Mission and Vision
- Mission: YES is committed to forming young disciples of Christ by promoting Eucharistic-centered spirituality. The society aims to cultivate a deep reverence for the Eucharist and inspire its members to live as witnesses of God’s love in their families, school, and society.
- Vision: To create a community of youth who are deeply rooted in the Eucharist, anchored in the teachings of the Church, and driven by a missionary spirit to serve others and spread the message of Christ.
Core Pillars and Values
YES revolves around two core pillars that shape its identity and guide its activities:
- The Eucharist: The Eucharist stands at the heart of the society’s spirituality. YES members strive to understand the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and develop a love for this sacrament, which is the source and summit of Christian life. This devotion is expressed through regular Eucharistic Adoration, active participation in the Holy Mass, and the promotion of the sacrament among students and the wider school community.
- The Blessed Virgin Mary: Mary, as the Mother of the Eucharistic Lord and the first disciple of Christ, serves as a model of faith, obedience, and purity. YES members honor her through Marian devotions, total consecration to her Immaculate Heart and the frequent recitation of the Rosary, and the celebration of Marian feasts. This devotion to Mary inspires the youth to say “Yes” to God’s will, just as she did, and to live a life of humility and service.
YES also upholds the Benedictine motto of Ora et Labora (Prayer and Work). By balancing prayerful devotion with concrete actions, YES members learn to integrate their spiritual activities into daily life, offering their work as a form of prayer and witness.
Activities and Programs
YES offers a range of activities that cater to both spiritual growth and community service, including:
- Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Hour: A weekly opportunity for students to spend time in silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. This practice helps cultivate a deeper personal relationship with Jesus and fosters a spirit of reflection and thanksgiving.
- Liturgical Celebrations: YES members actively participate and attend Masses as frequently as possible. The society also promotes and participate in special liturgical events, such as the Feast of Corpus Christi, First Friday Masses and Regular Confessions, in coordination with the SBCA Chaplains, Campus Ministry and Religious Education Departments.
- Marian Devotions: Monthly devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary, including the Rosary Rally, May Crowning, celebration of Marian feast days, and total consecration to the Immaculate Heart, encouraging members to seek Mary’s intercession and guidance, and emulate her virtues.
- Outreach and Social Action: YES is committed to translating faith into action. Members engage in charitable activities such as visiting orphanages, conducting feeding programs, and participating in community service projects. These acts of charity are inspired by the Eucharistic call to love and serve others, especially the marginalized.
- Spiritual Formation: To foster deeper spiritual formation, YES members undergo a series of formation program on the Eucharist, talks and seminars providing members with deeper understanding and appreciation of the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
- Faith Sharing and Catechism: YES members are encouraged to share their faith experiences through small group discussions, faith-sharing sessions, and catechetical activities, making the society a venue for peer-to-peer learning and support.
A Community of Fellowship and Growth
Beyond structured activities, YES serves as a supportive community where students can build meaningful relationships rooted in faith. The society organizes fellowship events, including prayer meetings, team-building activities, and social gatherings, which strengthen bonds among members and create a welcoming environment for spiritual growth and friendship.
YES: Living Out the Motto “Eucharistic Heart, Missionary Spirit”
YES’s guiding motto, “Eucharistic Heart, Missionary Spirit,” captures the essence of its mission. A Eucharistic Heart signifies a life centered on Christ, marked by gratitude, humility, and a desire to be in communion with Him. The Missionary Spirit calls each member to be an active witness of the faith, spreading Christ’s love through words and deeds.
Through these dual expressions of devotion and service, YES envisions a generation of young Catholics who are not only deeply rooted in their faith but also driven to share it joyfully with others. Through prayer and action, YES encourages its members to become bearers of hope and channels of God’s grace in a world in need of His presence.
The Youth Eucharistic Society (YES) is more than just an organization; it is a community of young people who seek to make the Eucharist the center of their lives with Mary as their model. By participating in YES, members are called to grow as individuals of prayer, service, and faith, embodying the Benedictine spirit of Ora et Labora. As they journey together, YES members strive to live out the Eucharistic mission of bringing Christ’s love into every corner of their lives, making a positive impact within the school and beyond.
