SATURDAYS WITH MARY 🌹(AUSCULTA!):
Our Blessed Mother Mary is a profound model of humility. Through her life and actions, she teaches us several important lessons about this virtue:
1. Acceptance of God’s Will: 🌹
Mary’s humility is most evident in her response to the Angel Gabriel during the Annunciation. When told that she would bear the Son of God, Mary responded with complete trust and submission to God’s will, saying, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38). Her willingness to accept God’s plan, despite the uncertainties and potential challenges, reflects deep humility.
2. Service to Others: 🌹
After the Annunciation, Mary immediately went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was also expecting a child. Despite carrying the Savior in her womb, Mary focused on serving others rather than seeking attention for herself (Luke 1:39-56). This act of selflessness shows that true humility involves putting others’ needs before our own.
3. Acknowledgment of God’s Greatness: 🌹
In her Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55), Mary glorifies God, acknowledging that all the great things in her life come from Him. She does not boast about her role as the Mother of God but instead praises God’s mercy and power. This teaches us that humility involves recognizing that all our gifts and achievements come from God, not from our own efforts.
4. Silent Strength: 🌹
Throughout her life, Mary displayed quiet strength and humility. She pondered the events of Jesus’ life in her heart (Luke 2:19, 51) and remained a faithful disciple, even standing at the foot of the Cross during His crucifixion (John 19:25). Mary’s silence and inner reflection show that humility often involves quietly trusting God in all circumstances, even when we do not fully understand His plan.
5. Role as a Mediator: 🌹
Even as the Mother of God, Mary does not seek to draw attention to herself. Instead, she directs us to her Son, as seen at the Wedding at Cana, where she tells the servants, “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5). Mary’s humility teaches us that our role is not to seek glory for ourselves but to point others toward Christ.
Mary’s humility is a powerful example for us to follow. She teaches us to submit to God’s will, serve others selflessly, recognize God’s greatness, trust in Him silently, and always direct our lives toward Jesus. Ave Maria! 🌹🌹🌹
