In a significant ceremony, Acting Chief Justice Ramon Paul L. Hernando spearheaded the Supreme Court’s unveiling of a historical marker presented to San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) on March 12, 2024, in Muntinlupa City. The marker commemorates the pivotal role played by SBCA as the National Headquarters and a local testing center during the prestigious 2023 Bar Examinations.
Expressing gratitude, Acting Chief Justice Hernando lauded SBCA, under the leadership of its Rector-President Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, and College of Law Dean Ulpiano P. Sarmiento III.
Hernando, who served as the 2023 Bar Chairperson, emphasized that selecting SBCA as the national headquarters was an astute decision. He remarked, “SBCA quickly became both the second home of Bar Team Hernando and the heart of the smashing success that is the 2023 Bar Examinations.” He noted that when the Court established standards for the National Headquarters of the Bar Exams 2023, “San Beda College Alabang stood out as the clear choice”.
Acting Chief Justice Hernando’s connection to SBCA runs deep. He is a proud law graduate of San Beda University and holds the esteemed distinction of being the recipient of SBCA’s first-ever
Doctor of Laws, honoris causa degree.
Praising SBCA’s ethos, Hernando hailed the institution as the “happiest law school in the universe.” He supported his claim by citing a decade-long study conducted by the Legal Education Board,
which revealed that SBCA School of Law ranked fifth among legal education institutions for producing successful bar takers from 2011 to 2022, contributing 4.22% to the total batch of lawyers
during that period.
The recognition of SBCA celebrates its pivotal role in the legal landscape and reaffirms its commitment to excellence in legal education. As the historical marker stands as a testament to SBCA’s legacy, it also symbolizes the enduring partnership between academia and the judiciary in shaping the future of legal practice in the Philippines.
