REFLECTIONS ON THE WORD ((Jn 20:1-9)
Happy Easter! Today is the day the Lord has made, the day of our salvation! Rejoice, for Christ our Lord has risen, Alleluia!
Easter is the culmination of our redemption. Without Christ’s resurrection, our faith is in vain. As Mary Magdalene experienced the resurrection firsthand, she shared her encounter with the risen Lord with others.
The Easter gospel mentions three individuals: Mary Magdalene, Peter, and the unnamed ‘disciple whom Jesus loved,’ representing all believers. Mary, faithful until the end, discovers the empty tomb and quickly shares her experience with others. They too witness the empty tomb and believe with their hearts, seeing the mystery of the resurrection through the eyes of faith. Today, with Christians worldwide, let us emulate the disciples by standing at the empty tomb, believing, and boldly proclaiming the good news of the resurrection.
May our beliefs manifest in our actions and daily lives. Let us, like the apostles and Mary Magdalene, share our personal experiences of Christ’s resurrection with others. Jesus is risen, death is defeated, and light and goodness prevail. We are an Easter people, and Alleluia is our song! (Fr. Rolo Alcasid, SDB)
