Mk 8, 27 – 35
This Sunday’s Gospel shows Peter rebuking Jesus, only to be harshly corrected. Peter couldn’t bear the thought of Jesus suffering, but Jesus reminds him that God’s plan is greater than human understanding. We often desire a victorious Savior, yet Jesus calls us to follow him in humility and sacrifice.
To follow Christ means embracing our cross, placing his mission above our comfort or security. It’s about giving our lives for others so that they may know God’s love. While this path involves sacrifice, it leads to true and eternal joy. Are we ready for the radical commitment Jesus asks of us?
