SUMMARY:Celebration of the Sto. Nino Festival: A Tribute to Catholic Faith and Community
DESCRIPTION:By Gino Antonio A. Rivera III\, MS \nHeld dear at San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) is a tradition infused by the spirit of camaraderie\, faith\, and cultural richness. The Pista ng Sto. Niño\, with the theme “Dakilang Gabay sa Sama-samang Paglalakbay\,” was once again celebrated on campus from January 17 to 20\, 2024. This eagerly anticipated event unfolded as a grand spectacle\, weaving together moments of\nreverence\, joy\, and unity. \nFor the Bedan community\, the Pista ng Sto. Niño is more than just a festivity but a cherished tradition that brings together students\, faculty\, staff\, and alumni in jubilant celebration. This year marked a significant milestone as the festival expanded its horizons by introducing new elements while keeping the activities the community has grown to expect and love. \nDay 1 kicked off with solemnity and reverence\, as the Novena Mass set the tone for the days ahead. The highlight of the day was the Enthronement of the Sto. Niño on the opening of the festival\, led by the Very Rev. Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa\, OSB\, Rector-President of SBCA. His words resonated deeply within the hearts of attendees\, echoing the school’s unwavering commitment to faith and community. \nIn his message\, Fr. Gerard emphasized the significance of the Sto. Niño festival. “Celebrating the Pista ng Sto. Niño is more than just a Bedan custom; it’s a cornerstone of the Bedan identity. The annual tribute showcases Bedan talent and fosters the spirit of service\, mirroring the humility and obedience of the Sto. Niño. This celebration encourages all Bedans to grow in wisdom and stature\, just like the child Jesus\,” Fr. Gerard said. \nThe subsequent days were filled with a myriad of activities that showcased the talent\, creativity\, and devotion of Bedans. Hosted by the Tertiary Schools\, under the guidance of Hermano Mayor Atty. Juan Ruffo D. Chong\, the festival spanned four days of vibrant activities and meaningful ceremonies. The opening ceremony at the SBCA open field set the stage for an unforgettable celebration. \nThe campus buzzed with activity\, each moment a testament to the vibrant spirit of the whole Bedan community. Highlights included a field demonstration by the Integrated Basic Education students\, the “Click\, Like\, Share” film showing\, and the blessing of the newly renovated school facilities. \nOne of the festival’s standout moments was the human formation of the Sto. Niño image\, a breathtaking display of unity and devotion where students came together to create a living representation of their faith. The event underscored the deep-rooted spirituality that permeates every aspect of life at SBCA. \nThe Communication and Media Studies (CMS) Department played a pivotal role in the festival’s success\, producing the marketing and promotional materials. Additionally\, the festival’s official jingle\, composed and produced by Mr. James Turla (BACMS 3A) added a melodious touch to the  elebration\, further enhancing the festive atmosphere. \nAnother significant aspect of this year’s festival was the exhibition titled “Images of Faith: Ecclesiastical Treasures in the Philippines” featuring the collection of Atty. Pablo Trillana that showcases the rich religious heritage deeply ingrained in Filipino culture. Additionally\, the launching of the Golden Jubilee Book served as a testament to SBCA’s enduring legacy and commitment to academic excellence.
