San Beda College Alabang has officially launched the YOUTH EUCHARISTIC SOCIETY (YES), a newly established student-led organization from Grade 11 to college students, dedicated to fostering a deeper devotion to the Eucharist and encouraging young people to live out their Catholic faith through prayer, service, and community engagement.
The Youth Eucharistic Society, commonly referred to as YES, aims to provide senior high school and college students with a platform to strengthen their spiritual lives by promoting the core Benedictine values of Ora et Labora (Prayer and Work). With a special focus on the Eucharist and Marian devotions, YES is poised to make a lasting impact on the spiritual development of its members and the wider Bedan community.
A Mission Rooted in the Eucharist and Mary
At the heart of YES is a strong devotion to the Eucharist, which the organization sees as the source and summit of the Christian life. Regular Eucharistic Adoration, active participation in Mass, and a deep reverence for the Blessed Sacrament are integral to the society’s mission. Alongside this, the group honors the Blessed Virgin Mary through Marian devotions, including the Rosary, Marian feasts, and special consecration activities.
A student expressed her excitement about the formation of the group. “We want to create a space where students can grow closer to Jesus in the Eucharist, deepen our love for Mary, and live out our faith in concrete ways,” she said. “It’s not just about prayer, but also about action. We are called to serve, just as Christ did.”
Activities to Nourish Faith and Community
YES offers a wide range of activities that cater to the spiritual and social needs of students. Weekly Eucharistic Adoration and prayer cell meetings provide members with the opportunity to reflect, pray, and build a personal relationship with God. In addition, the society organizes faith-sharing sessions, catechism discussions, and spiritual formation seminars to deepen members’ understanding of the Eucharist and other key aspects of the Catholic faith.
Aside from spiritual growth, YES members are also committed to community outreach. Through their outreach programs, they aim to make a difference in the lives of the marginalized, whether through feeding programs, visits to orphanages, or other acts of charity.
As part of its efforts to reach out to more students, YES has placed pull-up banners across the campus to raise awareness and encourage others to join. The banners highlight the society’s core activities, along with a QR code that students can scan to easily sign up or learn more. The society is open to all students from Grade 11 to Tertiary schools. An adult counterpart organization composed of staff, faculty and administrators is also envisioned to be organized soon.
Fostering Fellowship
YES is also about building a sense of community among students. The society hosts fellowship events, such as social gatherings, team-building activities, prayer meetings, pilgrimages (local and international), World Youth Day celebrations, overnight eucharistic camps – all designed to create lasting friendships rooted in faith. As more students join, YES envisions a growing network of young people who share a common mission of making Christ’s love known through their words and actions.
A Call to Say YES
The establishment of YES comes at a pivotal time when many young people are seeking deeper meaning and purpose in their lives. As Rector-President, Fr. Gerard De Villa, OSB, said during the society’s launch, “The youth are the future of the Church. Through the Eucharist and devotion to Mary, we hope that YES will help students strengthen their faith and become witnesses of God’s love in the world.”
As the organization begins to take root in the Bedan community, the message from YES is clear: Say YES to a deeper faith, YES to service, and YES to a life centered on the Eucharist, We say YES to you O Lord!
For those interested in joining or learning more about YES, the organization holds regular prayer gatherings and welcomes new members throughout the year. Information can also be found on their official social media pages and through the banners located around the campus.
San Beda College Alabang looks forward to seeing the positive impact of the Youth Eucharistic Society as it embarks on this new journey of faith, service, and community.
