Mr. Paolo N. Barcelon
on Becoming a Bravo Six Storyteller

The Bedan Legacy Connect Alumni Lecture Series explores the dynamic relationship between education and industry partnership. The primary goal is for Bedan alums to share industry insights
and experiences with students. Passing on the alums’ knowledge will help students succeed in their chosen fields and continue the legacy of excellence established by San Beda College Alabang.
The Alumni Affairs Office held its first Bedan Legacy Connect on October 14, 2023, in collaboration with the Communication and Media Studies (CMS) Program, chaired by Prof. Gino Antonio Rivera III. The CMS department hosted an exciting PEP TALK featuring CMS alum Mr. Paolo N. Barcelon from the class of 2014. During the event, Mr. Barcelon shared his extensive media
professional experiences in journalism, media relations, and broadcasting, providing invaluable insights and knowledge to his audience. His talk was inspiring and motivating, encouraging the CMS students to pursue their passions and become Bravo Six storytellers. During his talk, Mr. Barcelon highlighted the significance of education in becoming a message sender to the world. He
encouraged the students to find their true calling and invest their hearts into any profession, whether broadcasting, journalism, or photography. He emphasized the importance of “Ora et Labora” and reminded the students to uphold the Benedictine values and glorify God. Mr. Barcelon also stressed that storytellers must empathize with people to tell the stories of those who can’t speak for themselves. At the end he posed a thoughtprovoking question, “Para kanino ka nagkukuwento?” The Pep Talk event was a success, and the SBCA CMS community and the AAO expressed their gratitude to Mr. Barcelon for inspiring and empowering the next generation of media professionals with his expertise and insights. It proves that education and industry are two fields that can
work perfectly together to create a lasting legacy.

  1. Hi Alumni Team,

I graduated from San Beda College Alabang in 1999. My batch was the first College class when Benedictine Abbey School added the college department.

    2024 marks our 25th anniversary.

I am curious if there is any event or gathering to commemorate this milestone.

I am based now in the US but visiting Manila in July and I would love to attend and reconnect with this institution that meant a lot to me.

I am a very proud Bedan, and I believe much of my success now, I owe to the values I learned at SBC.

I was the first Class President, started the school paper as Editor-in-Chief (back when it was called “The Clarion”) and through those experiences, it has prepared me through various life transitions.

I would be happy to pay what I gained from SBC forward to future generations. I owe this institution so much.

    Keen to hear from you.

    Ora et Labora
