The Benedictine Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat, Mendiola, Manila
This year marks a significant milestone in our community’s faith journey—the 100th anniversary of our elevation from priory to abbey! In 1904, our modest monastery in Mendiola, Manila, was first established as a priory, a pivotal step forward for our community. Then, in July 1924, we were honored to be elevated to the status of an abbey.
(For those curious, a priory is a smaller community, while an abbey is a more autonomous and independent community led by an abbot. This transformation reflects our growth in faith, service, and dedication.)
On September 12, the Feast of Our Lady of Montserrat, our Abbey’s titular patroness, we will gather to celebrate this remarkable centennial. Join us in giving thanks for a century of blessings and devotion.
Viva Maria! Viva!
